The Uitkoms Falls
The Skurweberg area

Hidden in the magnificent Mpumalanga Highlands, The Skurweberg is the jewel of the Drakensberg.

The Skurweberg, redolent with history and adventure, from the earliest days of the Koi and San to the modern day fisherman and hiker, all have been stunned and awed by the magnificence of this part of the African Escarpment.

Situated just 2 hours from Johannesburg, and halfway to the world famous Kruger National Game Reserve, the Skurweberg and its environment is poised to become the playground for the international tourist and Gauteng.

Since the Skurweberg Pass was first opened between Machadodorp and the goldfields of Barberton, the weary traveller has found a place of peace and refuge to rest by the cool mountain streams that flow into the Komati.

Skurweberg, so named for the ancient sandstone outcroppings that are a rare example of an ancient seabed from the Godwana period, protect a wonderland of stunted yellowwood trees and aloes, It is the highest point of this stunningly beautiful area that stretches down the Hell's Kloof Pass into the magnificent gorges and canyons cut by the Bankspruit, Elands and Komati rivers.

This is the very lip of the African escarpment that falls to the steaming Monomatapa flats creating secret places with thundering waterfalls and still pools where the yellow fish and trout lurk, to challenge the skills of the angler and enchant the mind.

The Skurweberg Tourist Association, a collaboration between all the Tourist destinations between Machadodorp and Badplaas, compromises 16 establishments offering the discerning visitor a unique and varied African mountain experience.

The association is committed to ensuring that all our guests will receive a warm welcome, excellent fishing, hiking and horse trails, 4x4 drives, cycling rides and all the other country pursuits in a safe and secure environment, with top class accommodation.
